Well, considering how panicked I was when I posted about overextending myself, last night went surprisingly well. I watched American Idol and House, did my homework, plotted out three chapters of APL which will get written sometime this week if I have to tie myself to the chair to do it, AND logged 80 minutes of editing.
And that's not all.
I like Lasa again.
I know, I know! I don't know how it happened either! But she was being all naive and bewildered and SO much more like her mother than she realises and I was like, "You know what? You're cute. I might even consider letting you kiss Zac again." And she was all, "Yeah, thanks for that, I AM NOT MY MOTHER." Awww.
And, in an unprecedented stroke of luck, the chapter I had to edit was chapter nine, which contains The Letters. Usually I hate my writing, but these letters...OMG. Even I got absorbed by them, and I wrote the damn things! I was trying to fix the page numbers, you see, and when I got to the end of the chapter I realised that I had forgotten because LOVE LOVE LOVE. Sounds immodest, but seriously, it is a great joy to find myself liking my own work. Pyrae, a notoriously cruel beta, made only ONE change when she went over The Letters (and that was to do with French, which is her pet language) and wrote this at the end (and I quote): I LOVE THESE LETTERS. THEY ARE AWESOME. LOVE LOVE LOVE.
And...you know...just the fact that The Letters exist gives me hope for the whole novel. I mean, they may be, like...two thousand of eighty thousand words...BUT THEY'RE PRETTY DARN GOOD.
I'm now editing on three fronts. There's the first revision, with me at chapter nine; there's the second revision, which I did on chapter one; and there's the rewriting, where I am stuck at chapter fifteen, but not for long if I have anything to say about it.
And now, a featurette. ( The Difference Between Nae's and Pyrae's Beta-ing Styles )
