I finally finished The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy trilogy last night, and I have come to the conclusion that Douglas Adams is the best writer ever, and So Long, And Thanks For All the Fish had the best ending I have ever read.
I cried. I laughed. And then I just sat there for two minutes staring at a wall because, oh my God, so unutterably perfect in every way. And for the first time in so very long, I felt happy.
See, I'm hardly ever really happy. I laugh a lot, sure. And I feel accomplished when I finish writing something. But actual happiness - actual serenity - actually believing that all is right with the world - that doesn't come easily for me. I'm always too tired, too cold, too hot, too sick, too stressed.
Last night I fell asleep smiling.
In conclusion, go read The Hitchhiker's Guide and its sequels right now.
The Friends finale (complete with spoilers)...how wrong is it that I cried more for the Foosball table than I did when Rachel got on that plane?
Pyrae, you'll be happy to know that you're not the only one who saw the Ross/Joey in the only episode you ever watched. Jay Leno mentioned it too. It was quite amusing.
I'm back into my Trilogy now and feeling much better about writing in general. I don't understand why these characters are so much easier to control. Perhaps it's because the angst is so subtle in the beginning? Perhaps it's because I know what's coming and thus extreme angst isn't necessary right now? Hmm.
My mother went to Blockbuster last night and got me What's Eating Gilbert Grape?
Here's the funny thing about obsession. If Johnny Depp hadn't been in them, there are a lot of movies that I never would have seen. Benny & Joon, which is my absolute favorite movie of all time - my mom rented that in the early days of my obsession. The 'rents bought Don Juan DeMarco for me last Christmas, once again because of the obsession. Life would be so much duller if I hadn't seen those movies.
As for Gilbert Grape, well, Leonardo DiCaprio is in it, and I hate him. Okay, I liked Catch Me If You Can, but I still hate Leo. And I would not watch this movie if it wasn't for Johnny Depp, flyaway hair and all. But I watched the trailer last night, and it looks good.
Stargate, too. Would I have turned it on that day if I hadn't seen James Spader's name in the credits on the TV Guide, and remembered quite liking James in The Watcher (even though the movie as a whole was terrible)? Probably not. I don't watch the SciFi channel often. And, as anyone who knows me ought to know, Stargate is my most recent obsession.
In conclusion of that, obsession does good things for me. I'm a fangirl and I know it. "You're obsessed" does not constitute an insult. A'ight?
Might have to babysit for three hours tonight for service hours. Hate service hours. Should just go to public school and do away with service hours. Bah.
