What's the last thing you wrote?

A scene at the end of chapter five of TSPB.

Is it any good?

I can't ever tell if my writing is good. I think it's horrible, but everyone else seems to like it. Or fangirl it. Whatever. Anyway, I think it's all right. Not perfect, but then, what is?

What's the first thing you ever wrote that you still have?

Aha. Don't ask me that. ...well, okay, it's a two or three page story about...I'm not telling. I was just a kid, okay?! Plausibility meant nothing!

Was it any good?

No, no, no. It will never again see the light of day.

Write poetry?

Occasionally. My relatives seem to think I'm good at it but I really don't enjoy it very much. I've only done two or three poems outside of classes, anyway.

Angsty poetry?

Sort of. Not the really deep angsty black despair woe sort of poetry. More a low-level grey mist of sadness permeating the poem.

Favourite genre of writing?

Fantasy, always and forever.

Most fun character you ever wrote?

You know, with all I talk about them you'd expect me to say Joseph and Zacharias tie for that, but actually it's Jen. I mean, come on. Gorgeous mistress-of-disguise assassin who can kill with high-heeled shoes and cookies. And who smirks all the time.

Most annoying character you ever wrote?

My characters hardly ever annoy me. But if the fans are anything to go by, it's Quinn. I guess she sort of bugged me, too. The child wouldn't act her age.

Best plot you ever wrote?

Mm, I dunno. Logically if it was all that good I'd have finished it, so it would have to be TSPB, but I remain firm that the plot for that sucks. I think it would have to be the one I have planned for The Dying of the Dark. It's cliche...but not. And that's really fun to write.

Coolest plot twist you ever wrote?

I'm going to separate this into two parts: coolest and most sadistic. Coolest would have to be the one at the end of Fallen with Ryou and Bakura and wah. Because, come on. Sad, yes. But also unexpected and cool. And I can't tell you about the sadistic one, it's a secret...

How often do you get writer's block?

A lot. Generally I just don't care enough to open the files and work.

How do you fix it?

Beat myself over the head for awhile, then suddenly grow inspired and get down to work.

Write fan fiction?

I would not be here today if I did not have fanfiction.

Do you type or write by hand?

Type. I cannot write by hand. Incapable!

Do you save everything you write?

*points wordlessly to overflowing file cabinet*

Do you ever go back to an old idea long after you abandoned it?

Ohhh, yes. That happens all the time.

What's your favourite thing that you've written?

I want to say "Fallen," but I think that's just the high of finishing it. There are so many mistakes in that, it makes me wince to read it over. So, um...well, I'm going to like writing the end of Key-Seekers, which is already written and revised in my head...

What's everyone else's favourite thing that you've written?

It's hard to tell. There was practically unanimous praise for TSPB by the Legion, but there was also the endless discussion of the Trilogy. I don't know. They never tell me anything.

Do you even show people your work?

Only my beloved and trusted friends. Oh, and people online. Never relatives. They would hate me.

Who's your favourite constructive critic?

My darling Pyrae, my first critic and my most hilarious critic and my most all-around useful critic.

Do you have a web site for your writings?

Yeah, but I never update.

Did you ever write a novel?

Novel-length fanfic, yes. TSPB, yes. Yes!

Have you ever written fantasy, sci-fi, or horror?

Yes, yes, yes. Although the horror was completely experimental and it sucks.

Ever written romance or teen angsty drama?

Only as a subgenre within one of the three above.

Well, okay, yes. "Let Go" was romance. And...teen angsty drama...ohsoashamed.

What's your favourite setting for your characters?

Oh, I love all my worlds. I think the best is Cethien, though. It's such a rich, strange world. And Ryuven lives there, and I love him.

What's one genre you have never written, and probably never will?

Gen. You know, those really boring novels about The Beauty of Life. Little Women, Pride and Prejudice (although I actually liked P&P)...

How many writing projects are you working on right now?

What, actively? *counts on fingers* At least five.

Do you want to write for a living?

Yes please.

Have you ever written something for a magazine or newspaper?

No.

Have you ever won an award for your writing?

A few. Only for poetry, though.

Ever written something in script or play format?

Yep. Screenplay. It sucks don't read!

What are your five favourite words?

Bloody, asphyxiate, arrogant, smirk, fire (or flame, or any variation thereof)

Do you ever parody?

Yeah.

What's your favourite thing to parody?

The fantasy genre as a whole. The cliches, you know. I did an MST once, too, but I don't have it anymore.

Do you actually like that thing, or are you spitefully making fun of it?

I do like it. Usually.

Do you ever write based on yourself?

Hell, Lasa is me, but she's got the hair I wished I had. Oh, and her mother is a lot nicer.

What character that you've written most resembles yourself?

Lasa, I guess.

Where do you get ideas for your other characters?

They just happen. I dunno.

Do you ever write based on your dreams?

Sometimes, when I can remember them well enough and they make some sense.

Do you favour happy endings, sad endings, or cliff-hangers?

Sad endings, if I do not walk away unsatisfied. If Abhorsen had not had an epilogue, I would have walked away just as touched, except, you know, sobbing. It has to be an end, not just gratuitous murder. *whistles innocently*

Have you ever written based on an artwork you've seen?

Poetry. I'm sure there's something done in prose, but nothing I can remember.

Are you concerned with spelling and grammar as you write?

Hello? Grammar Hitler speaking? Yes!

Ever write something entirely in chatspeak? (How r u?)

I kill people who use chatspeak in any situation.

Entirely in L337?

I don't speak L337.

Was that question completely appalling and un-writer like?

Er, yeah?

Does music help you write?

I don't need it, but I like it.

Do you have a weblog or livejournal?

*points* SUPERFLUOUS QUESTION! IF THAT IS THE WORD I MEAN!

Are people surprised and confused when they find out you write well?

I dunno. Are you?

Quote something you've written. The first thing to pop into your mind.

I can't quote it entirely, but the speech about the folly of trusting monsters in Fallen chapter fourteen. I love Bakura.

If we're late to VBS because of this survey, I blame you, [livejournal.com profile] milestogo13. And that's an unwieldy name. Can I just call you Richard?

From: [identity profile] milestogo13.livejournal.com

Hehehe, yeah, it's an addicting little thing. And it's so interesting to see how other writers fill it out. We're all so similar in some ways and so remarkably different in others. Just goes to further enforce my belief that writers are a separate genus, with many different speices running around within it.

And by all means, go ahead, Richard is fine *smile*

*icon love*

Someone should make a little tree with all the different species of writer on it. The Writer Kingdom! The angst writer, the sappy romance writer, the fiction-which-is-really-nonfiction-with-different-names writer...

Ooooh...I might start work on that in Photoshop when I get home tonight. Make a t-shirt out of it or something. Maybe an entire line of merchandise geared towards writers! Like a coffee mug that says "Liquid Creativity" on one side, or a shirt or poster that illustrates the writing process flow chart (New Idea --> Detailing --> Writer's Block --> Sleep Deprviation --> Sobbing --> Breakthrough --> Write Page --> Crumple Up Written Page --> More Sobbing --> Abandon Idea --> New Idea)

From: [identity profile] naodrith.livejournal.com

That would be so cool. There could be a shop to sell this merchandise. With a bookshelf of writing how-to books and caution tape across it, and a little warning: "May cause intense weeping and frustration when these fail to work."

I've got my own place over at Cafe Press, I might start working some of this stuff up tonight, or this weekend sometime. Squee!

Ooh, now I need money so I can buy this stuff. Squee x2!
