I love to beta-read. It's one of my favorite things to do. I rejoice every time one of my alphas sends me a new chapter. Also, I'm one of the few people to have read Diagon Burning, since it's not up yet, and you know a story is good when it's making me believe in Harry/Ginny.

The thing is, though, that even though my almost-OTP is H/D, I can't make myself beta any of those, and I only read them when they're recced to me by someone I trust. I guess it's because I just can't see how H/D can work without a lot of build up to a relationship, and I'd rather not spend the beta-ing experience wincing at OOCness.

Speaking of OOCness! It's a silly thing, but it seriously bothers me when someone informs me that my original characters are acting "out of character." Because, um, they're mine. I know them, I know how they'd act, and thus they cannot be "OOC." They can be inconsistent, yes, but that's because they are people and people are often inconsistent, but they always have some kind of reason for it. Strange but true. And as they are my characters and it is my canon, OOC is not a proper term for their inconsistent behavior, which is not, actually, inconsistent.

Lyra, when do I get my chapters from you? We wants them, preciousss.

Um, and I have a bit of a problem with pacing, as I have just realized that next part of the story basically goes: Zacharias kidnapped - Zacharias returns - ALMOST IMMEDIATELY Zacharias is kidnapped again. And TORTURED. And also Joseph and Lasa get their angst on. And then there is FIRE and MURDER and lots of people DIE and then Zacharias is tortured again. Broadly speaking.

So much angst in such a short time. I need to find some kind of happy place for them to go just to lighten up a little before everything goes to hell in a handbasket.

I had someone pull that on me as well, over part 20 I believe, when they told me that Lillith wasn't acting like they felt she should. I just blinked and informed that person that all they knew of Lillith was that she was very, very good at messing people up -- she hadn't even spoken yet, before that part -- and I asked them where they got off telling me how my characters should be developing. Funny the kinds of things people will say to you, idn't it?
