My acquaintance Natalie's father died last week. That makes her a seventeen-year-old orphan.
I call her an acquaintance because I never really knew her. We were in school together for years, but I've no idea where she goes to high school. I mean, she could be at mine for all I know. We aren't friends. She was always too popular for that.
But Mom's making me go to the funeral tonight.
I hate funerals. Call them what you like - memorial service, celebration of life - I hate them. I prefer to grieve in my own way, which does not involve wasting my time, wearing itchy clothes, and being comforted.
It will probably be even worse tonight, because I didn't know Natalie's father at all. I must go simply to show sympathy. Isn't it enough to feel it? She probably hardly remembers who I am.
I wonder if I can get away with writing a clause into my will that forbids all kinds of funerals for me and punishes offenders by taking away their inheritance.

I'd say something like "Gee, I'm so sorry" but I don't know Natalie and you didn't know her father so any false sympathy would just seem pointless here.

Well, of course you'll be getting an inheritance. Most of it, probably, since I'd, well, die before I gave it to my parents, and I haven't got a husband or children. So really you'll be sharing it with the sibs.

Alysa wants her party. Also we have been talking a lot. Also slash. Also...Daddy made two gay jokes during Outback Jack. Should I be worried?

Alysa gets her party when the month is up, though I dunno how good it will be because I've never tried to organize a party before, least of all with someone like Korine-Bean. Talking is good. Slash is super-good. That depends. Were they in good taste or bad taste? Dude, I have found more Hathor fic. Except she's got a new host. It's like...whoa.

I can help organize, if you want. I do the New Year's party every year. I have the experience.
Well, it's hard to tell. I know he hates gays, but the way he said it wasn't mean-spirited or anything. The first time was when Marissa was all over Jack, and he was just all, "Now they have to have Marissa and Natalie kiss!" Then, later, when Jack was talking about not knowing who to choose, Dad said, "The real twist will be when he picks JD [the host]." It was weird. I dunno.

I'm gonna -need- your help. My idea of planning a party is "Are you all free this Friday? 'Kay, come over to someone's house whenever you feel like it. We'll work the details out there."

But, you know, yeah. I can help.
See, what you need to do is decide who you want to come, and find a good date, and make sure everyone knows what's happening. Also you have to clean whatever house the party's at, which is fun, believe it or not. You have to make arrangements for snacks and supper and (if it's a sleepover) breakfast. You have to make /some/ plans for games and stuff, but not too many. You have to solve logistical problems like where you're going to put people. Oh, and did I mention the keeping-parents-happy thing?

Aigh, that's complicated, especially as I think we'd be having it at Alysa's. Gwah.

Anyway, she lives in our city, at least. My parties are all at my grandparents'. This is /easy/.
